Plane crashes into Volvo, pilot rescued

A witness reported that just before 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, a two-seater single-engine AT3 aircraft attempted to land, but took off again. During the second attempt at landing, the plane clipped a Volvo XC60, which was leaving the airfield.

This light plane practically bounced off a Volvo XC60 when it hit the SUV. After the collision, both the Volvo and the airplane caught fire. The two people inside the SUV managed to escape unharmed, then made their way to the plane and rescued the pilot. The pilot was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The incident occurred at the North Weald Airfield in England, where fire crews were already on hand thanks to a drag racing event to which the XC60 was a part of.

Officers are still not clear on whether this was a mechanical or human error.
