Mercedes brings the S350 diesel to the U.S.

After Audi and BMW began to utilize diesel technology, Mercedes-Benz has decided to join the group.

According to a recent report, Mercedes-Benz has just announced that it will reintroduce a diesel-engined version of its S-Class sedan for the North American market.

The car will come with a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 diesel, bearing the BlueTec badge and using the AdBlue urea injection technology to clean the exhaust. It develops 241 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque, a bit more output compared to its 235 hp and 398 ft-lb European version. The S350 BlueTec will be the only diesel S-Class to be sold in the US.

Mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission, the S350 will likely sprint up to 60 mph in 7.8 seconds, while reaching a top speed of 155 mph.

The S350 will get the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system and will be capable of around 37 miles per gallon. EPA will probably score it around 20 mpg on the highway.

The automaker is also intent on expanding its diesel presence worldwide.

The 2011 S350 BlueTec will start arriving at U.S. dealerships later this year with a base price below $87,950.
