2012 Kia Rio enters the Geneva fightKia has a new baby in this year's Geneva Motor Show.
The design was changed. Rio it now features a courageous outlook, deeply sculpted doors and an elective LED daytime driving lights. Talking about the exterior, Kia measures 55 mm longer, 25 mm wider and 15 mm lower than the retiring model. This is not all. It also has a spacious cabin and a luggage compartment which can hold up to 390 liters of load and this is the result of 2,570 mm wheelbase.
The inside is believed to be classy and spotless. The biggest development was made concerning the material quality. Other reasons to drive a Rio are the passive entry, Bluetooth connectivity and heated front seats.
What we cannot see are the four different engines available under the cover. Thanks to the additional power, the dash from 0-100 km/h takes 11.5 seconds and the top speed is 181 km/h. The entry-level 1.25-liter petrol produces 85 PS (63 kW / 84) and 118 Nm (87 lb-ft) of torque, which helps the car speed up from 0-100 km / h in 13 seconds and touch a top speed of 167 km/h.
From the diesel point of view, there is a 1.1-liter three-cylinder that enlarges 82 PS (60 kW / 81 hp) and 94 Nm (69 lb-ft) of torque. What this means is that this weak engine reaches a top speed of 161 km/h and 0-100 km/h clocks in at 16.4 seconds. And because your time is precious, the 1.4-liter four-cylinder churns out 90 PS (66 kW / 89 hp) and 216 Nm (159 lb-ft) of torque.
Of course there is some waiting time for the five-door Rio, which will only be available at the end of this year and the three-door alternative will be initiated at the beginning of 2012.
