Chrysler pondered diesel U.S. Jeep Compass replacementCompany officials from Chrysler are currently looking at a diesel version of the Jeep Compass or its replacement due in 2013 for the States. The refreshed Jeep Compass is expected to begin its sales at the beginning of 2011 in the U.S., Europe and other markets and will be available in some showrooms featuring a Mercedes-Benz 122kW/320Nm 2.2-liter turbo-diesel with an average of 6.6 liters/100km, about 43 mpg. According to previous reports released by officials, the diesel for the U.S. would be a Fiat one, expected to show up in the Compass/Patriot replacement, built off a modified engineering platform derived from the Alfa Romeo Giulietta. The controversy has always risen wherever this interest in diesels for the U.S. appeared as Volkswagen sold 40,000 Jetta and Golf TDI models per year, thus European automakers are forever trying to boost sales by extending their investments made for EU markets.
As regarding its pricing, it would be close to $28,000, incorporating the upmarket all-wheel drive package.
