GM boosting GMC Terrain and Chevy Equinox production

GM announced recently that CAMI Automotive is about to invest 90 million Canadian dollars approximately in the local factory, for retooling the West Body Shop plus growing the production of both GMC Terrain and Chevrolet Equinox. This action will bring about 150 employees back, the firm stated for the press.

GM Canada's president - Arturo Elias says 'The Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain are two of GM’s hottest selling products. This investment is an excellent example of what happens when you get the product right. If the product is right, everything else follows – increased production, increased employment and strong market demand'.

GM says the production there, will be boosted with 40,000 cars yearly approximately, with the vehicles to be addressed to the markets in US and Canada.

The Honourable Sandra Pupatello, Minister of Economic Development, Trade in Ontario said 'Ontario is a world leader in automotive production and assembly, thanks to our highly skilled workforce and culture of innovation. We applaud the investment made today by CAMI Automotive, and we congratulate the CAMI and GMCL teams, as they continue to contribute to our province’s success'.

The Honorable Minister of Industry - Tony Clement said 'As a major partner in the restructuring of the automotive industry over the past year, I am very encouraged by this investment. As a result of the high demand for the Equinox and Terrain, approximately 450 workers have returned to or will start new jobs at the plant. This is great news for CAMI, great news for Ingersoll and for Canada'.

GM affirms the retooling operations start right away; the project will be finalized in 7 months, at least that's the expectation.
