CAW agrees with the new CAMI contractYesterday, the all-new tentative GM's CAMI - Canadian Auto Workers got announced, voted upon, approved by the former. So, the new agreement is made for 3 years and it's approved by 61 % of production employees and 89 % trades workers. It benefit also guarantees and cuts – a brand new product in 2014 for the line-up GM from CAMI, replacing GMC Terrain and Chevrolet Equinox.

Mike Van Boekel, chair of CAW for CAMI factory stated 'Our workers recognized the importance of long-term stability, and although no one wanted these contract changes, I believe stability is what we achieved with this new agreement'.

This new agreement is freezing 'wages and pensions, trims benefits, introduces a monthly health care contribution and reduces break times' said CAW. The 2 year lag that's between CAMI and GM, setting (with the U.S. maker) base wage parity.

Ken Lewenza, CAW president continued 'While these contract changes are difficult for our members, I hope they will help usher in a decade of prosperity for the CAMI facility, which will guarantee good jobs well into the future'.

The CAW has still unsettled problems with Ford, accusing the builder from America of 'refusing to make a commitment to a manufacturing footprint'. The newly concluded deal leaves some room for hope Ford will now observe.

'This agreement with CAMI should serve as model for our negotiations with Ford, who must understand that only with a fair commitment to maintaining manufacturing in Canada can painful contract changes be possible'.
