More money for FiskerFisker Automotive – the U.S. automaker secured for the moment an extra 115.3 million Dollars in private equity money to make plug-in hybrid vehicles. The funding is quite necessary for access a 528.7 million Dollars conditional loan from the U.S. Department of Energy, helping speed up the Fisker Karma completion, the 1st plug-in hybrid of the firm.

The money, in majority, will go into the Project NINA, involved with design, assembly and engineering of the upcoming generation of Fisker plug-in hybrid models. The rest is for development and research of Fisker Karma which will be the basis of these low-cost units.

The carmaker wants to make or save about 5,000 jobs involving the car suppliers industry plus some thousands for creating a plug-in hybrid unit in America. Project NINA will be made in Wilmington, Delaware on some ex GM assembly factory beginning 2012.

Henrik Fisker - the CEO stated for the press 'Raising $115 million in these times speaks volumes about the value of our business model and the vast potential of plug-in hybrids'.

Investors include Ace Investments, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and A123 Systems. Fisker Automotive signed recently a multi-year supply contract with A123 Systems involving lithium-ion batteries powering Karma.

Fisker said 'Fisker Automotive selected A123 because of the company's ability to meet our performance needs and rapidly scale to our production volume. We are committed to developing environmentally friendly cars that don't sacrifice style or performance. A123's technology will ensure the Karma delivers'.
