The 2012 Fiat 500, which was produced at the Fiat group's Toluca plant in Mexico and was scheduled to hit the car markets this spring, received its EPA ratings. Thus, we have the following figures: 38 mpg on the highway, 30 mpg in the city and a combined figure of 33 mpg if the car model is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. If the vehicle is connected to a 6-speed automatic, the figures are different and we are talking about 34 mpg on the highway, 27 mpg in the city and 30 mpg combined. One of the Fiat North America objectives is to open a total of 130 dealerships, 40-50 of them will be in business by the end of March, while the rest are expected to open by the end of the year. Three models will be available when the sales start, with the entry-level Pop priced at $15,995, while the Lounge and Sport cost $19,995 and $17,995 respectively and the destination charge is included in all prices. It is most likely that the biggest seller of the lineup will be the Sport model. 50,000 mile warranty, 15-inch steel wheels, 7 airbags, heated mirrors, speed control, 50/50 split fold-down rear seat, air conditioning, power locks and windows will comprise the equipment of all models. Aiming to make it more appealing to American customers, the U.S.- spec Fiat 500 was modified as compared to its European counterpart. One of the major additions is represented by the automatic transmission, while the North American car provides a more comfortable ride and is quieter and the 101HP 1.4-liter FIRE engine received a MultiAir intake system, which improves power output and fuel efficiency by 10% over the Euro-spec engine.
