GM brings Cadillac back to racing

Three years after GM put a stop to Cadillac’s racing ambitions, the luxury carmaker is decided to make its comeback with an official announcement about their return to racing in 2011 with the CTS-V Coupe, scheduled to enter the Sports Car Club of America World Challenge competition. Don Butler, the vice president for Cadillac marketing stated to the press that the return to racing proved to be a great way to demonstrate the capability and the performance of the CTS-V Coupe, thus marking Cadillac’s return to s series where it was a competitor from 2004 to 2007, taking the Manufacturer’s Championship in 2005 and 2007 and the Driver’s Championship in 2005. Two teams are currently being prepared for the upcoming SCCA World Challenge GT Class by the Detroit-based company, providing a racecar based on the production CTS-V Coupe. According to the representatives, the racecars in this series are production based, a fact that allows them to validate their performance as compared to the best competitors on the track and not only the showroom.
The series will have its first event taking place on March 25-27 in St. Petersburg, Florida, while the first event in the SCCA World Challenge begins with Johnny O’Connel, who is a three-time GT1 champion in the America Le Mans Series and Andy Pilgrim, who is the proud winner of the 2005 SCCA.
