Nurburgring 24 hour race won by BMW M3 GT2

Nurburgring 24 hour race won by BMW M3 GT2We told you yesterday about the Nurburgring 24 hours race and the fact that Audi will start from the first four position, thanks to their Audi R8 LMS models. Well, as always when it comes to endurance racing, the cars that start from pole position almost never get to win the race.

The Nurburgring 24 hour race of this year was certainly one of the most interesting races of the last period. To begin with, you have to know that Porsche won the Nurburgring 24 hour race in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. BMW wanted to do everything they could to stop the reign of Porsche while Audi was very hopeful after its great performance in the qualifying session.

The Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid, which was highly anticipated and long awaited to make its debut in a race, managed to pack a punch, as it managed to lead the race for eight hours. Unfortunately, the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid did not finish the race, as Joerg Bergmeister, Porsche factory driver, said that he ``heard a loud noise at the rear of the car and suddenly the power went`` after 22 hours and 15 minutes. With some improvements, the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid might actually be the racing car of the future.

Meanwhile, the regular Porsche 911 GT3 RS managed to finish in 13th position while other Porsche 911 GT3 Cup S managed to finish in 6th and 8th while the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup models finished in 10th and 11th.

As you can see, Porsche finally did not win the Nurburgring 24 Hour race. But who did? Well, the big winner was BMW with their BMW M3 GT2 model. After 154 laps round the Nurburgring Nordschleife, BMW got four top ten finishes and 10 class wins as a little over one third of all cars were BMW models. To be more precise, two BMW M3 GT2 models came in 1st and 7th while two BMW Z4 GT3 models finished in 4th and 9th.

Other notable performances include a 2nd place finish for a Ferrari F430 GTC and a 5th place finish for an Audi R8 LMS.

Mario Theissen, director of the BMW M division, said that ``The tension was enormous for all of us, so the relief was all the greater when the car crossed the finish line. I must say a big thank you to every single member of the team. Everyone worked perfectly together. Thanks also to our loyal fans, who have taken us to their hearts after a five-year break and given us such great support``.
